As the most populous city in Eastern Hokkaido, Kitami has a great selection of nice restaurants serving local cuisines from sushi to Japanese BBQ (Yakiniku). You’ll never be bored exploring delicious Hokkaido food there.

Kitami makes a great base for your trip as well. Its central location in the region gives you easy access to many destinations, such as Akan, Lake Kussharo, and Abashiri with a day trip.

How to Get There

Kitami is just 30-min drive away from Memambetsu Airport. Public bus stransportation is avaiable from the airport. You can take trains from other cities, such as Sapporo, Asahikawa, and Kushiro to JR Kitami Station as well.

Best time to visit

June to September would be best in terms of the nice summery weather.
