The Best Sushi Restaurant in Hokkaido that You Should Never Miss: Toriton

Toriton in Kitami is the best sushi restaurant that I have ever been to. And I’m sure the most of local people here would agree with me. Toriton’s sushi is so fresh and delicious at reasonable prices. It’s constantly crowded with locals and tourists. This successful restaurant has expanded over years to now have 13 shops in Hokkaido and 2 in Tokyo, which also have long waiting lines all the time.

The restaurant is the conveyor belt style with a vibrant atmosphere. Staff are very friendly. Not only sushi but seafood miso soups here are also good. Try their crab or shrimp miso soup, they are so rich and flavorful.

They serve many kinds of seasonal fresh fishes. The menu hanging over the central kitchen is their seasonal recommendations (sorry, only in Japanese!). For those who want some suggestions, these are my all time favorites;

  • Fatty salmon(トロサーモン)

  • Salmon roe (いくら)

  • Sea urchin(ウニ): So fresh and creamy, no smell. Must-try.

  • Flounder edge grilled with soy sauce (炙りエンガワ 焦がし醤油)

  • Salmon grilled with mayonnaise(炙りサーモンマヨ): or simply with salt as another choice!

  • Fresh scallops(活ホタテ)

  • Yellow tail(ブリ): I like to pair it with lemon & salt.

    (Not sushi, but their almond jelly with strawberries (イチゴ杏仁豆腐)is so good for dessert!)

I would say this is the most crowded restaurant in the town. Unless you have enough patience to wait in line for two hours, you are highly recommended to go there before open (Get in the first seating, otherwise you will have to wait long.), between lunch and dinner times or around 9pm.
