Welcome to
my eastern Hokkaido!

Hi there, my name is Yuuka.

I’m a travel blogger who grew up in Eastern Hokkaido and travels around the world. I love sharing about Eastern Hokkaido through my blog, and this is my biggest passion.

Here’s my story!

How did I start this blog?

I grew up in Kitami, a small city in Eastern Hokkaido, and lived there until 18 years old. Just like any other countryside kid, my dream was to leave my boring hometown and enjoy urban city life in a bigger city.

So I did it. I studied and worked abroad in different countries around the world for 7 years (the US, Thailand, Switzerland, Egypt, etc).

However, living abroad actually made me realize how amazing Eastern Hokkaido is - it has great nature, many incredible outdoor activities, high-quality fresh produce, and delicious local food. It deserves more attention from people outside Japan.

In August 2019, I started My Eastern Hokkaido to introduce this beautiful region to international travelers like you. I’m so glad that you are here to know about my beloved hometown!

Where Do I Live now?

I’m currently based in Geneva and London.

I work for an international organization in Geneva, Switzerland, and make occasional visits to London to spend time with my husband who is working there (the biggest supporter of my blog!).

Now, are you wondering how I write a travel blog about Eastern Hokkaido, while being on the other side of the world?

Here’s why.

My Travel Experience in Eastern Hokkaido

I go back to my hometown once or twice a year to see my family and make content on my blog. However, the majority of my travel experience in Eastern Hokkaido comes from my childhood.

My family moved to Eastern Hokkaido from Kansai (the western part of Japan) when I was 6, because of my dad’s work. And my parents loved it there.

On weekends, they took my sisters and me to all the beautiful and fun places and explored Eastern Hokkaido. This is how I learned so much about traveling in Eastern Hokkaido as I grew up.

I’m so grateful to my parents, who appreciated Hokkaido so much because they came from outside, and let me experience every good part of it. This is how I’m able to share all the travel tips and hidden gems with you on this blog.

(By the way, a lot of beautiful photos you see on my blog were actually taken by my mom. This is a family business!)
