Hi, I’m Yuuka from Hokkaido, and I’ve recently visited Asahikawa during my solo trip. I stayed at OMO7 Asahikawa and it made a really easy base for exploring the city, so I want to share it with you, especially if you’re looking for a convenient, affordable hotel.

It’s perfect for…

OMO7 Asahikawa a casual, mid-range city hotel run by Hoshino Resorts. They’re known for luxury ryokan and resorts, but OMO7 is their affordable city-hotel brand. It’s designed for travelers who want convenience, good locations, and a fun local feel!

A Hotel That’s Actually Fun to Stay In

Large illuminated neighborhood map display in the OMO7 Asahikawa lobby featuring local restaurant and shop recommendations.

I really liked how much effort OMO7 puts into making our stay interactive and local.

My favorite is the huge city map in the lobby. It has so many recommendations for restaurants, cafes, and shops in the neighborhood.

Lobby neighborhood recommendation board at OMO7 Asahikawa labeled Local Gourmet featuring suggested restaurants including Sumiya Yakitori Ginneko Yakitori Yoshiya Yakitori Ranman Hitsujia and Daikokuya.

They also have dedicated local expert staff whose job is to help you find local spots. They actually talk with you and suggest places based on what you like, instead of just giving you a generic leaflet!

Another thing I liked is the free welcome drink station offering unique Hokkaido drinks. During my visit, they were serving Hokkaido corn tea. It’s a must-try if you’ve never had it yet! You can also buy it at a convince store.

DIY bath salt station at OMO7 Asahikawa with bowls of dried flowers herbs and colored salts labeled rose lemongrass and sandalwood.

They also had a small corner where you could make your own bath salts using dried flowers and herbs. You mix them, put them in a little packet, and use them in your room or take home as a souvenir.

And you’ll find lots of animal-designed touches around the hotel inspired by the famous Asahiyama Zoo in the city. So fun if you’re traveling with kids!

Free City Tours: A Nice Bonus

OMO7 Asahikawa also offers free guided neighborhood tours, which is something rare for city hotels to do in Hokkaido.

Depending on the day and season, these can include things like:

  • cafe walks
  • local food tours
  • supermarket tours
  • sake tastings (this one is 1,000 JPY)

Unfortunately, I couldn’t join any because they were all booked out when I stayed. Don’t forget to book online in advance.

Especially if it’s your first time in Asahikawa or if you’re traveling solo, having a local guide show you around is a great way to get to know the city.

Rooms: Simple, Smart, and Practical

Twin room at OMO7 Asahikawa with two beds colorful accent wall small desk and under bed luggage storage designed for a practical city stay.

OMO7 Asahikawa has many types of rooms for up to 5 people. I stayed in a Studio Room as I was traveling solo.

The room was very simple, modern, and practical. If you’re looking for fancy hotel amenities, this would feel too minimal, but if you’re out in the city during the day anyways, it’s just a decent setup.

Minimalist studio room at OMO7 Asahikawa with bed wooden headboard shelf and charging outlet highlighting the smart space saving design.
Compact bathroom at OMO7 Asahikawa with bathtub toilet sink and basic amenities showing the simple and practical room setup.

I would say it was a typical city hotel style room, but one thing that was unique was that there was a luggage storage space under the bed, so your suitcase doesn’t take up the whole floor like it usually happens in a small Japanese hotel.

Public Bath & Sauna: Tattoo-Friendly!

OMO7 has a large public bath and a sauna for guests. This is not a hot spring or with views, but it’s still nice after a long day of walking around the city.

One big plus is that they are tattoo-friendly.

Most hotels in Asahikawa don’t allow people with tattoos to take their public bath or onsen, so this is a rare place that you can enjoy without worries.
