Sekka Shiretoko: A Family-Run Hotel with Warm Hospitality
Looking for a cozy accommodation where you feel connected with a warm-hearted owner? Then Sekka Shiretoko is a perfect place to stay for you.
Hi I’m Yuuka from Eastern Hokkaido, and Shiretoko is one of my favorite places in the region. I’ve stayed at a few hotels in Shiretoko, but is Sekka Shiretoko offers a completely different, more personal experiecne.
If you’re traveling as a couple or a family and don’t want to stay at a conventional resort hotel, I’d highly recommend this charming hotel run by Souko-san. She’s such a friendly, caring person who will make you feel like you’re staying at your auntie’s place.
From natural onsen baths to delicious home-cooked meals, here’s a look at why Sekka Shiretoko feels like a home away from home.
Souko-san, the Heart and Soul Behind Sekka Shiretoko

Souko-san, the owner of Sekka Shiretoko, welcomes every guest with her charming smile here since 2023.

Before opening Sekka Shiretoko, she was a Superhost of Airbnb and welcomed travelers from around the world. She had many repeating guests touched by her kindness and genuine hospitality.
I’ve been recommending her hotel to many of my clients and audience, and here’s what they’ve told me, so you know travelers really like staying here!

Onsen: Small natural hot spring that feels private

What I really like about Sekka Shiretoko is the 100% natural flowing hot spring. The water was so silky smooth that I immediately felt the difference on my skin. I didn’t even need lotion on my face afterwards, because it was so moisturizing!
The bath itself is rather small, but I didn’t mind it as it gave a private feel. Since Sekka Shiretoko is a small accomodation with just 5 guest rooms, it’s possible that you’ll have a whole bath to yourself depending on the timing.
I really enjoyed it with my todder son and liked that I didn’t have to bother other people while he was having fun in the water!
This onsen is also tattoo-friendly.

Location: Getaway to Shiretoko’s Nature Wanderland

Sekka Shiretoko is located in Shari town. The property is surrounded by trees and open spaces, so it’s quiet and peaceful.
With a short 30-minute drive, you can get to Utoro, the center of Shiretoko’s outdoor activities, including the famous Shiertoko Five Lake hike and nature cruises in summer.
For ski lovers, the Unabetsu ski slope is just a step outside from the hotel!
Rooms: your home away from home

Sekka Shiretoko offers two types of accommodations: a Family Room for up to 8 people and 4 Standard Rooms for 2-4 people.

The Family Room comes with a private bathroom and shower while standard rooms share common bathrooms. If you’re traveling as a family, I’ll definately recommend booking the Family Room. There’s only one Family Room, so make sure to book it early!
